I hope everyone has had a restful holiday and looking forward to a new year!
What have we learned: We just finished studied electricity and current before our long holiday break. The transfer of electric current from dry cells through highly conductive metal wires was discovered in our many labs and activities in class. After investigating the nature of electricity students were asked to create circuits that they thought worked best and defended their choices to their classmates.
Where are we going: We are gearing up to explore space, time, and all things in the universe. Students will have an opportunity to participate in a class field trip to the Challenger Center next to UTC on January 20th. We will be conducting our own "Mission to Mars" and learning more about the intricacies of space travel. Students will also be studying the lunar cycle, seasons, and tides. We will be discussing and discovering why these phenomenon happen, what causes them, and how they affect our lives and the way we express time. Students will be asked to bring in a working flashlight for a discovery activity in class on January 30th. We will be discussing the orientation and patterns of the moon, earth, and sun. This unit will cover a vast amount of information and analysis, so I hope everyone is ready to hit the road running!

About Me...
My Education: I received a Bachelor's dgree in Middle School Education from the University of Georgia.
Why am I at CSAS: When I first heard of this school and its reputation in Hamilton County, I knew that I wanted to be a part of its faculty. Upon further review of CSAS I found that this school strives to provide quality education through the Paideia Philosophy for all K-12 students. I believe that CSAS is a special place with special students and parents that desire the development and achievement of life-long learners. I am honored and excited to be a part of such a devoted community.
Family: I have a dad who just retired from 35 years of teaching, a sweet mom, an awesome younger brother, and a fiance, Drew McCallie. By the end of the school year I will be Mrs. McCallie!
Hobbies: One of my favorite things to do is dance. I use to be a real ballerina with the shoes, pink tights, and bun. I also enjoy decorating my new apartment, bowling, and exploring the wonderful Chattanooga area.
Favorite Scientist: You! You don't have to have 10 degrees, work in a chemistry lab, or have really crazy hair to be a scientist. You are a scientist when you observe things that happen everyday and make conclusions, inferences, or predictions based on those observations.
Favorite Sports teams: I love the Georgia Bulldawgs. I am farther away from them this season than I ever have been in my life, but it is still "great to be a Georgia Bulldawg!" I am also a fan of the Braves.
