I would like to welcome all of our students back to CSAS for the 2011-2012 school year. My World History students will be actively engaged in a journey that explores the events that have shaped our world today. I am also excited about teaching Contemporary Issues during the Spring Semester.  Mr. Lowry

 

 

 WORLD HISTORY:

Students will explore individuals, events, and the big ideas that have helped shape the world we live in today.

 

CURRENTLY IN CLASS

1-30-12

Students are beginning a unit on World Religions.  Presentations will be on Feb. 7th. A test will be given on the 10th, and a food celebration will be on the 10th as well. The unit is displayed below.

 

 WORLD RELIGIONS UNIT

 

Religion has played a major role in the world’s history.  The world religion unit is designed to expose you to a variety of religions practiced around the world.  As we progress through the unit, you will gain a better understanding of why it is important to learn about different religions.  Students will be divided in to groups and assigned to the following religions.

 

HINDUISM

BUDDHISM

JUDAISM

ISLAM

CHRISTIANITY-CATHOLIC

CHRISTIANITY-PROTESTANT

LATTER DAY SAINTS (MORMON)

SHINTO/CONFUCIANISM/TAOISM

 

Assignments:

  1. 5 paragraph informative essay on your new understandings of the  religion.   Individual
  2. Visual- Each group will create a concept map.
  3. Presentation- Each group will present their findings to the rest of the class.  Plan out a strategy that will help your peers understand the religion. Every student will receive a notes page that you have created.
  4. Food- Each group will bring in food that is related to the culture/beliefs of their religion.

Why are you at CSAS? I fell in love with CSAS when I student taught here in 1998. I fully believe that the best education for one is the best education for all.
