A: No, CSAS is a public magnet school operating within the Hamilton County Department of Education.

 

Q: What is the Paideia philosophy?

A: It's a school of thinking about schooling and thinking that was founded by philosopher Mortimer Adler and encourages didactic instruction, intellectual skills coaching, and seminar discussion.

 

Q: How can my child attend CSAS?

A: Our admissions process is very straightforward and dictated by the publicly-elected Hamilton County School Board. As a magnet school, CSAS is open to students throughout Hamilton County.

 

Q: What kinds of classes do you offer at CSAS?

A: Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences follows the educational guidelines established by the State of Tennessee while also providing a few unique learning opportunities for our K-12 students. Children begin foreign language instruction in kindergarten at CSAS and continue through high school. In addition, an emphasis on related arts allows us to approach learning from a creative and collaborative perspective that often results in fun and interesting pairings, like music and math or science and art.
