Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences

Judith Jasinski

Dear Students (and parents!),

Well, here we are well into the second semester.  Let me update you on what's been going on in our art community.

In Pottery, our newest studio class, students have sampled basic clay-working techniques and will begin our 'Metamorphosis' project.  Students will create four related ceramic works that progressively change yet have characteristics common to each.  Every bag of clay opened reveals the amazing skill and imagination these advanced students bring to class.

Art 1 students have practiced sensitively drawing with a wide range of values and gradation of values.  Now they are delving into color theory and are creating unique color wheels.  It's exciting to see students come up with unique ideas and bring them to fruition.

Middle School students have just finished their art installation in the style of Tennessee-born artist, Red Grooms.  Come by the art hallway on Thursday and Friday, February 2nd and 3rd, to see their interpretation of Ruckus Chattanooga.

Our Seminar Group continues to redefine 'awesome' with their thinking and animated discussions of big ideas.  They are currently developing their Scholar's Journey portfolios.  Each student has a goal of completing at least two Classroom Reflection Forms by Thursday, February 2.  Of note, Scholar's Journey presentations have been changed to March 28 and 29.

These winter days are flying by like it's spring!  I hope to see a lot of new faces at conference time!

Sincerely,

Ms. Jasinski
